Dr. Taweevat Assavapokee is a board-certified physician in internal medicine with clinical and academic interests in hospital medicine, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), and hemodynamic assessment. He completed his internal medicine residency at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, where he developed a strong foundation in managing complex inpatient cases and teaching medical trainees in a high-volume, urban setting. He went on to pursue a POCUS fellowship at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City.
Dr. Assavapokee brings a global perspective to his practice, having received his initial medical education in Thailand before continuing his postgraduate training in the United States. His clinical expertise includes acute inpatient care, ultrasound-guided diagnosis and procedures, and the integration of POCUS into evidence-based decision-making at the bedside. His research interests center on venous congestion, multi-organ ultrasound applications, and medical education in bedside ultrasound. He has authored peer-reviewed articles and reviews on these topics and continues to collaborate on academic projects aimed at advancing the role of POCUS in hospital medicine.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Assavapokee is dedicated to medical education and faculty development. He actively mentors medical students, residents, and physician assistants, and is committed to fostering a culture of compassionate, patient-centered care at Weill Cornell.
