

Dr. Penelope (Penny) Lema is the inaugural Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs for the Columbia University Department of Emergency Medicine and Professor of Emergency Medicine at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. A nationally recognized leader in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Lema has played a pivotal role in advancing the sub-specialty of Emergency Ultrasound.
Dr. Lema completed her Emergency Medicine residency and Emergency Ultrasound fellowship at North Shore University Hospital (now Hofstra Northwell), where she was also Chief Resident. Dr. Lema has held several prominent national leadership positions. She is the past Chair of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Emergency Ultrasound Section, past Treasurer of the Society of Clinical Ultrasound Fellowships (SCUF) and currently serves as President-Elect of the New York Chapter of ACEP.
A dedicated educator, advocate, and leader, Dr. Lema is deeply committed to advancing emergency care and empowering the next generation of emergency physicians with her expertise in faculty professional development.
