Dr. Matthew William McCarthy an Associate Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical Center, Vice Chief of Inpatient Clinical Operations and Division Chief of Hospital Medicine for the Department of Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital-Queens. Dr. McCarthy graduated from Yale University with a degree in molecular biophysics and biochemistry. He graduated from Harvard Medical School and went on to complete his internal medicine internship and residency at Columbia University Medical Center, and his infectious disease fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. McCarthy's research focuses on the development of novel therapeutic options for patients hospitalized with infectious diseases and he is a nationally recognized expert in the treatment of COVID-19. He is the author of more than one hundred peer-reviewed manuscripts and textbook chapters. In addition to his clinical trial work, Dr. McCarthy is also the author of three bestselling books, including The Real Doctor Will See You Shortly, a memoir of his intern year, and most recently, the international bestseller Superbugs: The Race to Stop an Epidemic, which was named a USA Today "Book Not to Miss." His books have been published in more than a dozen countries and translated into six languages.
