
Leyla Bayat, MD is a board-certified hematology and oncology physician. She is an assistant professor of medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. She completed her fellowship at NYU Langone Medical Center's Grossman School of Medicine. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, following a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience & Behavior from Barnard College of Columbia University, where she graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.
Dr. Bayat completed her internal medicine residency at Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. Her clinical interests span oncologic care, internal medicine, and the intersection of environmental and genetic factors in cancer development.
She has contributed to numerous research projects, including studies on ovarian suppression in breast cancer, particulate matter exposure and lung cancer, and racial and socioeconomic determinants in small cell lung cancer outcomes. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Neurobiology of Learning and Memory and Current Problems in Cancer: Case Reports, and she has co-authored a chapter in the American Society of Clinical Oncology Educational Book.
Dr. Bayat is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Society of Hospital Medicine, and the American College of Physicians. She is also passionate about medical education, having led teaching sessions at NYU, Case Western, and Barnard College.
