iconAbout Kaile Eison, DO

Kaile Eison, DO, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. She is the Director of Global Health, Director of HIV Rehabilitation, and the Associate Director of the CUIMC Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. She holds particular interests in the comprehensive management of acute rehabilitation needs, individuals recovering from prolonged stays in intensive care units with medically complex needs, and those living with acute and chronic functional impairments related to HIV.

Dr. Eison completed her undergraduate education with a major in theater at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. While attending medical school at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and during her internship in internal medicine at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, she discovered a love for and cultivated an interest in both global health and infectious diseases. She continues to work in both fields, with particular interests and ongoing projects in Uganda and Tanzania, leading the residency global health track, as well as working closely within the Infectious Disease division at CUIMC. She completed her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at New York Presbyterian - Columbia and Cornell, with her final year as chief resident.

Dr. Eison believes in integrating humanism in medicine. She strives to find what makes each person unique and, in that way, find the best way in which to work with them, using a comprehensive and whole-person approach. She is an attending on the inpatient rehabilitation unit and sees patients in both the Department of Medicine's HIV Clinic, as well as in the Vanderbilt Clinic spinal cord injury clinic.
