After the completion of his residency at The Hospital for Special Surgery in 2001, Dr. Kelly completed a two -year fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at The Hospital for Special Surgery. Dr. Kelly then received the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation / Zimmer Career Development Award which helped to fund an additional fellowship in Hip Sports Injuries and Arthroscopy at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Center for Sports Medicine, under the direction of Dr. Marc J. Philippon, MD. He also completed an AO International Traveling Fellowship in Shoulder Trauma under the direction of Dr. Herbert Resch at the Landeskliniken Hospital in Salzburg, Austria.Throughout his training, Dr Kelly has maintained an active interest in clinical and basic science research of the shoulder, hip and knee. He has received numerous awards for both outstanding research and teaching including: Orthopaedic Research Society New Investigator Recognition Award (NIRA), Charles S. Neer Award (American Shoulder and Elbow Society), Philip D. Wilson Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Surgery Research, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine Young InvestigatorÂs Award, Jean C. McDaniel Resident Teaching Award, and the Lewis Clark Wagner Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Surgery Research. He has received significant grant funding from agencies including the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation, the Aircast Foundation, and the National Football League. He is currently investigating non-arthritic hip pain in athletes, and working on the use of novel biomaterials for synthetic meniscal replacement in the knee. He is the author of numerous scientific publications, chapters, and review articles.Special Interests:Shoulder, Hip and Knee Instability, Hip Labral Repair and Osteochondroplasty, Ligament Reconstruction and Arthroscopy, Joint Replacement- Knee and Shoulder, Rotator Cuff disease and sports injuries.
