Alicia Jones, OD is an Instructor of Optometric Sciences (in Ophthalmology) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Jones specializes in the diagnosis and medical management of glaucoma and the co-management of post-surgical cases, working closely with the department's glaucoma specialists. She also provides comprehensive optometric care with an emphasis on dry eye and blepharitis management. Dr. Jones studied Pre-Optometry at MCPHS University in Boston, MA and completed her Doctorate in Optometry at the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Optometry.Prior to joining the department, Dr. Jones evaluated cases of cataracts, retinal pathology, and glaucoma in a private ophthalmology practice, in addition to triaging emergency ophthalmic consults at a nonprofit teaching hospital in Brooklyn. During this time, she was also an assistant preceptor mentoring fourth-year optometry students during their external clinical rotations. Since establishing herself at Columbia University, Dr. Jones has contributed to the education of fellow optometrists, ophthalmology residents, and medical students through lectures, workshops, and academic posters. Her educational contributions span an array of topics, from ocular effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and individualized assessment of glaucoma suspects to the basics of refractive optics. She continues to mentor optometry students through the SUNY College of Optometry Family of Mentors Program and has spoken at SUNY College of Optometry's Career Symposium. Dr. Jones is currently conducting research to better understand current practice patterns among optometrists, ophthalmologists, and their respective trainees in the management of glaucoma suspects, ocular hypertensives, and mild to moderate glaucoma.
