Dr. Alan Perlman is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine. He is the Medical Director of the Diabetic Kidney Disease Center at Rogosin Institute. In 2008, he founded the Diabetic Kidney Disease Center as a collaborative effort to advance the art of the management of diabetic kidney disease by participation in therapeutic drug trials for diabetic nephropathy, investigator-initiated discovery studies relating to the pathogenesis of DKD and through preventive efforts. Dr Perlman is also founder and medical director of RENAL AID, a biorepository for the serial collection of biospecimens and clinical data in patients with native kidney disease. Dr. Perlman joined the staff at both Rogosin Institute and Weill Cornell in 2003. Prior to joining the Rogosin Institute, he served seven years in the United States Air Force, and concluded his military career as Medical Director of Primary Care at Andrews Air Force Base, MD. He studied medicine at Tufts University and completed Internal Medicine Residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He completed his nephrology fellowship at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.
