Dr. Afsana Rahman is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology and an Advanced Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support and Transplant Cardiologist at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. She also serves as the leader of the Advanced Heart Failure program at Englewood Health Medical Center.

Dr. Rahman specializes in taking care of patients with heart diseases, mainly heart failure. She takes care of patients with any form of heart failure, whether it be genetic, valvular, coronary disease etc. She also has extensive knowledge about advanced therapies, such as mechanically circulatory support devices, intensive cardiac care, left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) and heart transplantation. Her clinical interest includes heart failure, advanced heart failure therapies, cardiomyopathies, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiovascular hemodynamics. Her research interests include exercise hemodynamics, cardiogenic shock, and transplant immunology/medicine. Dr. Rahman spends time between inpatient care and outpatient care, as well as, performing procedures in the heart catheterization lab where she does advanced invasive hemodynamic studies and endomyocardial biopsies.

Dr. Rahman is a native New Yorker and did all of her training in this wonderful city. She attended New York University, where she completed a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry and Political Science. She then graduated medical school from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. She did her Internal Medicine Residency at Montefiore Medical Center at the Moses and Weiler Campus, then completed her Cardiovascular Disease fellowship at NorthShore/LIJ at Northwell Health. She finished her training with an Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology fellowship at Columbia University.

Finally, Dr. Rahman is a member of the American College of Cardiology, Heart Failure Society of America, American Transplant Society, Women in Mechanical Circulatory Support and the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
