Abdallah Mahrous, MD is an Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medicine and an Attending Physician at New York Presbyterian Hospital. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in vitreo-retinal surgery, a sub-specialty focused on diseases of the posterior segment of the eye including the vitreous cavity and the retina.Dr. Mahrous completed his two-year fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine and New York Presbyterian Hospital. During his fellowship training Dr. Mahrous gained broad clinical and surgical experience treating patients across Weill Cornell Medicine clinics, New York Presbyterian Hospitals of Weill Cornell, Lower Manhattan, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. Prior to his fellowship training Dr. Mahrous completed a three-year ophthalmology residency also at Weill Cornell Medicine and New York Presbyterian Hospital where he gained exposure to various pathology across the New York Presbyterian Hospitals as well as Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. Dr. Mahrous also served as Chief resident in his senior year and won the prestigious Distinguished House Staff Award selectively chosen amongst the residents of New York Presbyterian Hospital for his clinical and surgical excellence. Dr. Mahrous is a graduate of Weill Cornell Medicine in Qatar where he received his Medical Degree with Honors in Academic Distinction where graduated top of his class and also received the United States Medical Licensure Examination Tutor award for his teaching and mentoring of junior medical students. Dr. Mahrous' clinical and surgical interests include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachments, retinal tears and holes, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, retinal vein occlusions and dislocated lenses amongst others. He is actively involved in clinical research and has contributed to numerous surgical, clinical and basic science peer-reviewed publications. He has also written journal review articles and helped author on several retina textbook chapters. He has also presented at local, national, and international ophthalmology conferences.
