Dr. Holmes earned a B.A. in Biochemistry at Swarthmore College, where he received High Honors for his work on characterizing the Influenza A M2 protein under mentorship of Dr Kathleen Howard. He later earned an M.D. at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine where he earned Honors in Research and conducted work on melanoma with Dr. Upendra Hegde. There, he conducted the largest database project in the history of the University's health center. He then completed internship and residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell. He was selected as an Assistant Chief Resident where he led a month of morning conferences for medicine residents. His primary research interests include prostate cancer, immunotherapy, and novel radionucleotides. He is currently studying how actinium-based radionucleotides can be used in combination with immunotherapy in advanced castrate-resistant prostate cancer. His work was selected for an oral presentation at Weill Cornell's 2025 Research Day. In addition, he has presented at conferences such as the ASCO Annual Meeting and ESMO Congress in both poster and oral presentations.
